Winnipeg, MB – January 9, 2019

The St. Vital Victorias’ Major Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce details and release tickets

for its 5th annual sports banquet.

As the primary fundraiser for the club, the event aims to link inspirational speakers relevant to

our organization, and an exciting, memorable evening jam-packed with entertainment.

This year’s keynote speaker will be former captain of the beloved 1995-96 Winnipeg Jets, Kris

King!

To ensure you have some great laughs, Canadian comedian and entertainer Dave Hemstad will

headline the evening, and Power 97’s Phil “Philly” Aubrey will return as our host!

About Kris King

• Kris played 14 seasons in the NHL for the Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Winnipeg

Jets (1992-1996), Phoenix Coyotes, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Chicago Blackhawks.

• He won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 1996 – awarded to the player that exemplifies

leadership qualities on and off the ice and that has made a noteworthy humanitarian

contribution to his community; and

• Kris now works for the National Hockey League as Senior Vice President of Hockey

Operations for the NHL's central office in Toronto.

 

About Dave Hemstad

• Dave is a three-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee who began performing on national

television in 2002;

• In addition to his own half hour "Comedy Now" special on CTV and his 2 Gala performances

at the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, Dave has taped multiple

appearances for both the Halifax and Winnipeg Comedy Festivals on CBC;

• Dave has many acting credits to his name including having starred in the Showcase comedy

series "Almost Heroes";

• He is currently a regular on CBC's smash hit “The Debaters” and a contributing writer on the

CBC series "Still Standing"; and

• In addition to his many international appearances, Dave is proud to have performed in

every province AND territory in Canada.

 

About Phil “Philly” Aubrey

• Philly is one third of Winnipeg's #1 radio rock morning show on Power 97;

• He is a lifelong Winnipegger who has been playing hockey since he was 5-years-old;

• Phil realized he wasn't going anywhere in hockey when he was cut from the Oxford Heights

9A team; and

• Phil has two young sons and says he has every intention of forcing them to play hockey

whether they like it or not!

 

The St. Vital Victorias Major Junior Hockey Club Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation.

The mission of the Junior Vics Hockey Club is to provide an opportunity for young men to play

exciting, fast-paced junior hockey at a highly competitive level in St. Vital, while balancing the

demands of their educational and/or career pursuits.

The objectives of the hockey program include promoting competitive excellence, encouraging

team cohesiveness, nurturing personal growth and advancing community pride.

The Junior Vics have been a proud member of the MMJHL since 1975.
