Historic Rivals Team Up to Deliver Holiday Cheer
The St. James Jr. Canucks and the Charleswood Hawks have one of the fiercest historic rivalries in the MMJHL.
Today, the teams put their differences aside for the greater good as they give back to the community with some holiday cheer. Through the “adopt a family” program at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, the Jr. Canucks and Hawks have teamed up to deliver a hamper of food and gifts to a family who has recently experienced tragedy and hardship.
Ashton Romaniuk and Trent Thorsteinson from the Jr. Canucks; and Ethan Lewis and brother Elliot Lewis from the Hawks took the time to organize and load food and presents and make the delivery to the family in need.
“It was a great moment to see the two organizations come together and help out a family in the surrounding community. Just goes to show hockey is not just a game on ice, it brings people together and amazing things can be done” said Romaniuk."It was really nice to help put a smile on their faces despite the unfortunate circumstances, especially with the holiday season beginning" - Ethan Lewis.
The Jr. Canucks food drive for Winnipeg Harvest will wrap up at tonight’s last game of the home stand vs the River East Royal Knights, 7:30 pm start at the Ab McDonald arena. All food collected will be delivered to Winnipeg Harvest this weekend.
